During my first year in high school I was getting hassled by a big fat kid and I decided to give him some verbals back.
Things escalated during the course of the school day and with the shit stirring intervention of the other kids a straightener was arranged on the green after school.
I was and still am not any kind of pugilist but felt I} had to save face and front it out.
Quite a crowd had formed and Fatty Foster appeared with his mates (corner men) as I stood there on my todd with my legs turning to jelly it suddenly dawned on me that I was giving him at least 4 stone and four or five inches in I height.
Part of me wanted the ground to open up but I was there because the kid had annoyed me, he was a bully and if I didnt stand up to him this would continue.
He was laughing and smirking at me playing up to the crowd, he even started shadow boxing but as he done this i realised there was little to fear.
Bayed on by the crowd he drew a little nearer before declaring "im gonna turn your fucking lights out you spaz"
With that he unleashed his haymaker which was I think meant to land on my chin but ended up somewhere around my ear and in reality was nothing more than a weak slap.
The boy couldn't punch to save his life.
I stood back a little in case of a follow up but he hesitated and I seized the moment.
"is that all you've got you fat fucking prick" I bellowed.
He just stood there for a second as the kids started to snigger I could see he was about to move forward to have another pop but I was well prepared and had stepped aside slightly so as he moved forward I managed to catch him slightly of balance with a right to one of his many chins, to my utter amazement he went over tree or in the movies but more n stages falling backwards and losing his balance.
As he finally ended up on his arse in the mud I looked at him to see if he was about to launch another attack (I wouldn't of fancied going to ground with him) but I could see in his face he had gone, the kids that were watching were all sniggering at the manner in which he had ended up on the deck and he looked shocked and humiliated, I think to be honest he was on the brink of tears.
Reassured that the duel was done I felt a great weight had been lifted and couldn't resist having one last snipe
"next time fat boy pick on someone your own size"
With this I fucked of home with a spring in my step and feeling ten foot tall.
To be fair to the fat kid he came up to me the next day and offered me his hand saying "great fight eh"
I laughed but took it and we became mates after that.
A couple of years later I was in a similar situation and decided to hold my hands up again with a totally different outcome as the kid could throw a punch and as I later found out had boxed for England.
Luckily only a bloody nose but I was out of my depth and probably should of walked away but you live and learn.
I try and avoid physical confrontation but sadly l there are occasions when it becomes impossible to do so.

The last proper fight I had was at school (I am 62 now) it was proper toe to toe for what seemed like ages, but was probably just a few minutes, in the end I just had to admit she was just that bit better!!

I went to the comedy night upstairs on the night in question and then on the way out I think I had a pint when the music was on downstairs before exiting. I am not sure if it has closed or not as I have not been back since. I was only there as it was a work xmas do. It was a nasty experience but luckily no permanent damage, pretty sure it was some local scum bags who did it from around there.

Had a fair few when I was a kid, even though I was small for my age I knew how to punch and that often caught bigger lads off guard. Agree that seeing grown adults have a fist fight looks quite neanderthal and but sometimes it's a case of defending yourself from a beating.

I have the temperament to get into fights, but know I would always come off worse, so avoid them. This was a valuable lesson learnt at school.
Plus real life fights between adults always look feable and nothing like on TV.

HALLERINTHE MORNING, Yes lots of times, but you find away to win,you dont know how you have done it,i believe i had help from a higher plain many time, it was strange i only had fear for my family, i got to mid forty and did not want to live i wanted to go then, ive seen the best and worst in people.

Also not a fight as such but I was set upon outside Jongleurs at Mile end in 2008 just before Christmas by a total bunch of cunts for no reason. I think I was deemed to have looked at someone wrongly or something but while waiting for a Taxi I was surrounded by 3 or 4 blokes and despite saying I did not want any aggro I remember some black bloke saying that I was "In big trouble" and before I knew it I had a bottle smashed on my head and they were all giving it to me. I tried to cover up more than actually fight though. Suddenly the cab I was waiting for arrived and I managed to get in to it - I had to repel one bloke who was still giving it to me as I did. The cabbie drove me to the nearest hospital thankfully. My nose was pouring with blood too and I walked in to A &E and desperate to find a mirror fearing that it had been cut badly. I still remember washing my face and looking in the mirror to see it was not cut so must have bene a punch or boot rather than a bottle. It was a nasty experience and one which makes me try to be careful when I go out. However, I am 44 now and popping to Hornchurch for a few is enough for me. Told the police but apparently the CCTV outside was broken and no further leads so I never found out who did it.

Two fights in the playground mid 90s, both won convincingly on points. happy to retire with 2-0 unbeaten record after that.
